Playing with Bubbles Part 1

Have fun playing with soap and water!!  You can experiment with Tornado Tube and soda bottles with a simple household item.

Supplies:

1 Tornado Tube

2 soda bottles

cold water

5-10 drops of Dish Soap

Food Coloring (optional)

Directions:

1st: Fill one of your soda bottles with about 3/4 cold water.

2nd: Begin your soap experiment by adding 3-5 drops of dish soap into your bottle that contains the cold water.

3rd: Connect your Tornado Tube to your empty soda bottle then connect it to your water and soap filled soda bottle.

4th: Then turn upside down so the water pours down while you create circular motions with the bottle.

Do you see bubbles yet?  Maybe you should shake it a little faster!! Don’t be shy.

*Take notes on what happens as you add more soap. Ask yourself or friends some of these questions:

What happens to the water as it is mixes with the soap?

Do you get more bubbles as you add soap?

What size are your bubbles?

Are the bubbles equally the same size?

I bet you could come up with some more questions about your soap experiment on your own.

See what happens when you add more soap!

5th: Continue this experiment by adding more drops of soap to your water in between your Tornado creations.  Don’t forget to tighten your Tornado Tube to the soda bottles so it doesn’t leak.

For extra fun and experimenting: try adding food coloring to your water.  Does the food coloring have an effect on your soap bubbles?

Have fun and be safe!  Wear safety goggles to prevent soapy eyes!

Glow In The Dark Water!!

Glow In The Dark Water!!

What you will need to make your water and Tornado Tube glow:

1 or 2 adults to supervise and assist

1 glow in the dark Tornado Tube

2 recycled soda bottles

1 small or large florescent black light (note: florescent black light is stronger glow power than a black-light bulb.  Please be careful these bulbs get hot quickly so don’t touch the bulb! 🙂

1 large/wide highlighter felt marker (experiment with different colors! Some colors glow better than others! )

1 pair of pliers

1 pitcher of water

1 pair of  gloves (optional)

rags to cover table in case of dye spills

DIRECTIONS:

With your gloves, use your pliers to pull the end cap off your highlighter felt pen and pull out the ink felt pad.  Place your felt pad in water pitcher and let soak until desired darkness.  Note: the darker the color the better the glow.

Carefully pour your dyed water into one of your empty soda bottles then attach your Tornado Tube.  Grab your other empty bottle and attach it to the filled bottle and Tornado Tube.

Turn off all the white lights and then turn on your black light.  Turn your bottle upside down and swirl your Tornado Tube and watch your Vortex glow!!
